The company issued a statement warning sat-nav owners that their maps would "become out-of-date", adding that navigation will be "less accurate".One angry Twitter user wrote: "So 'lifetime' doesn't mean 'lifetime'?The Latest Map Guarantee doesn’t apply to refurbished units or memory cards with preinstalled maps.It also doesn’t apply to units with Lifetime Maps since those devices get free updates anyway.Both programs are available as free downloads for Windows PCs and Macs.While some Tom Tom updates are paid, you can update your device for free with the company’s “Latest Map Guarantee” if you’ve purchased it recently or if you have a device or app that includes Lifetime Maps.
Press the gray "Update my device" icon at the top of the Tom Tom HOME software screen.
When you purchase most new Tom Tom devices, the company gives you some time to download any updates released since your unit was manufactured.
This way, you know you’ll have the most up-to-date information when you start using your device.
Click "Update and Install." The software will automatically download and install the updates to your Tom Tom device.
Wait for the Tom Tom HOME software to complete the installation process before proceeding. Click "Devices" in the top of the Tom Tom HOME screen and select "Disconnect Device" from the drop-down menu.
Tom Tom navigation devices get regular map updates at least once a quarter to keep you in the know when it comes to route changes and new location information.
